TL;DR

Netflix - The top when it comes to popular streaming sites. It has an amazing amount of content with some of the best shows ever made being Netflix originals.

Amazon Prime Video - The only competitor coming close to Netflix. It has a slightly higher subscription rate but still manages to get close to Netflix in subscriber count.

Hulu - An innovative streaming service that believes in getting its services to customers in any way possible with a highly diverse library of content.

Disney Plus - A great family-friendly platform perfect for kids and adults alike.

Twitch - A great real-time platform for gamers.

Spotify - Extremely popular and well-adopted platfrom for consuming you preffered music and podcasts.

Intro

When it comes to streaming services, there’s a tone. During the last 10 years, the world moved gradually from the the download model to the streaming model. Today, having a steady wifi connection or good cellular internet, is what's most important since all our streaming services are consumed online in real time. No need to store anything on the device. Today, we are going to introduce you to some of the top streaming sites for 2020.

1. Netflix

At number one, we have Netflix; the best streaming platform in the world, and judging by things, it’ll stay that way. Once quarantine started, Netflix received such a huge surge of users that they had to temporarily disable their 4K videos streaming and downgrade videos to 1080P.

Netflix Cover

Netflix has the biggest library of content on the internet. Its original series is an absolute thing of beauty. Shows like the Witcher, Stranger Things, Orange Is the New Black, etc. have shattered viewership records and have submitted Netflix as the top dog in the world of streaming services.

2. Amazon Prime Video

So, at number two, we have the only contender that even comes anywhere close to Netflix in terms of quality. Amazon Prime video, as the name suggests, is a popular streaming platform from Amazon itself. It’s pretty exclusive. Just like Netflix, it has a huge audience and releases its own originals on the network too. There’s a wide array of compatibility options too. It works on Android, Apple, Windows, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, and Smart TVs.

However, there are a few caveats that have kept this platform from sneaking to the top. The first would be the quality of the originals. Don’t get us wrong, there are some pretty good shows released there. But, there’s also a pretty extensive list of absolutely terrible shows too. Its library isn’t as diverse, and its interface is nearly not as enjoyable as Netflix’s is.

3. Hulu

Hulu is probably one of the most diverse streaming platforms out there. The folks at Hulu are definitely innovative and have come out with things that no one else has. The first thing worth mentioning would be the Nintendo Switch Compatibility. Hulu is the only service to provide their content on a Switch. Moreover, they have two different ‘types’. The first is the standard on-demand streaming service from the company. The second is a live TV version of the platform on cable. The version costs you a bit more ($40) and is only available in the United States. But, it’s a good alternative for people that don’t really have a stable internet connection to enjoy the platform.

4. Disney Plus

Disney Plus came out only recently but the platform doesn’t seem in a rush to climb to the top. It’s more of an app that came out to serve as a source of nostalgia and family-friendly shows for all Disney shows and Movies. It's loaded with a bunch of animated, action, fiction, sci-fi, and superhero content; making it one of the best platforms to enjoy with your family.

The library of content isn’t as diverse as some of the platforms mentioned further down this list. But, it’s definitely pretty comprehensive. Another huge plus point is that Disney doesn’t really care about the quality of your videos. They’re giving you the premium 4K experience in the standard subscription package of $6.99 and don’t charge you more.

The platform is compatible with PS4, Xbox One, Samsung, LG Devices, Roku Players, Amazon Fire TV, Fire Tablets, Apple TV, Chromecast, and finally Android and iOS.

5. Twitch

So, before you frown at why we have a (mostly) game streaming site on this list, let us explain. Netflix and every other streaming platform out there have a specific set of content. It’s there, it becomes stale and you might lose interest somewhat. However, a platform like Twitch is a place that hasn’t lost popularity ever since it launched. And, ever since 2020 started, it’s picked up popularity even more because of the millions of gamers stuck at home.

SOME STATS FOR GRAPH: Platform hit 1,863,000 million concurrent viewers; highest they’ve ever been. Highest viewer count of all time in April 2020 with 2,486,264 million viewers. 1,790 million watch hours in April 2020. (Source: https://twitchtracker.com/statistics)

The platform is completely free to use. You can make purchases to tip your favorite streamers for their content, but it isn’t compulsory. Moreover, the best aspect of Twitch is that if your device has an internet connection, it’ll be compatible with the Twitch App. Twitch is supported on Apple, Android, Windows, Xbox, Google Chromecast, Apple, and Nvidia Shield.

Closing Thoughts

Passing quarantine in 2020 is a tough job as any. People are getting bored due to the lack of activities in their day. In these unfortunate times, we suggest staying mentally distracted on something that can take your mind off of the current situation. It may seem naïve, but it’s the best we can do right now. We highly suggest going for Netflix, or even some of the other platforms mentioned below and hope that all of us can get through these times together.
